TRIBUTE FROM KOSA 1976/78 YEAR GROUP

I personally met Marlon Praises Anipa, affectionately called, Sexy Marlon by his peers, at the Lower sixth form at Kpando Secondary School in 1977. He actually came from Awusco, Tsito. We both studied Economics, History and Government together through to upper sixth form. Per his contributions in class, and other academic exercises, he was a brilliant student. He was also a really exciting young man by then known for his exploits and brilliance in current and world affairs.

He was the outgoing type. His dynamism in current affairs led to his spearheading of the formation of GUNSA (United Nations Students Association) of which he was the organizing secretary and myself the executive secretary. He became very popular and loved by most of the young students because of his exploits in entertainment. He was an exciting dancer and could easily do the antics of the late Michael Jackson’s popular tune “the thriller” at the time. Virtually a pop star at Kpasec in his days. His only down side at the time was his unkempt dressing which led to his confrontation with the school authorities. Beyond the sixth form, we both continued to the University. Infact we both spent two weeks at Legon where we had our orientation at the Balm Library.

We then decided to move to KNUST in Kumasi because we had admission to the three traditional universities then. After another two weeks of orientation in Kumasi, Marlon decided to return to Legon and I opted to stay in Kumasi. We have been together as very good friends until he left for the UK to seek greener pastures. I must confess that, my association with Marlon from the secondary school through to the university has made me what I am today when it comes to self-confidence, taking responsibility at the work place, church and other social groupings.

These are all things I learnt from Marlon. He was articulate, widely read, always wanted to relate with high profile personalities. Probably, his guiding life principle which he is fond of shouting all the time worth sharing is “I don’t take second class, I always insist on first class”. On his return to Ghana, he decided to venture into politics until he met his untimely death. Sexy, we those of your friends who met you in KPASEC will forever remember you because of your comic reliefs, and your easygoing attitude on serious issues. We have really lost a good colleague and you will be forever remembered. Though we love you so dearly, God loves you more.

Rest, in the bosom of your Creator.
