The news of your sudden and untimely departure trickled in silently as it was unbelievable. We are still struggling to come to terms with the reality as our grief is beyond measure. The devastation and void of your sudden demise is too huge for us to bear. It is indeed sad that, we are gathered here today to bid you farewell at a time when we should be receiving direction and inspiration from you in order to bring hope to the youngest district in our new region.
Marlon was a true patriot who championed the ideals and pursuits of the New Patriotic Party, over the years, from his base in the U.K. He demonstrated his commitment to the party by committing resources to the development of the party at the local level for many years prior to the establishment of the Oti Region. Twice, he contested and lost in the parliamentary primaries to represent the Hohoe North Constituency on the ticket of the NPP. Despite those losses, his faith in the party did not waver. On his third attempt, he became the parliamentary candidate of our Great Party in the general elections of 2016. His strong belief, commitment and hard work contributed to our victories in that election and the subsequent one.
When Oti Region was created, Marlon promptly left the Hohoe Constituency and aligned with his ancestral roots in the new region. Since then, he brought his professional and political expertise to bear on the activities of the party in the region. His ideas and other resources supported the delegates conferences, inaugurations, electoral campaigns and rallies of the Party in the region. His diligence, selflessness and loyalty to the party caught the attention of His Excellency the President, leading to his appointment as the District Chief Executive of the newly created Guan District.
Marlon, you carried the dreams of a brand-new district in a brand-new region: these were dreams of development projects to bring better livelihoods to our people. But God’s ways are different from ours. So even as we pursue these dreams without you in flesh, your high sense of duty, loyalty and selflessness will continue to inspire us.
Till we meet again, farewell, faithful patriot. May your path be brightly lit. May the soft dew quench your thirst. May Mother Earth receive you kindly.
